Signe Naeve, Of Counsel
Signe Naeve is Of Counsel for HMLG and provides legal counsel in all areas of intellectual property and media law. Her background is in traditional media and she has a passion for protecting First Amendment freedoms. She received a journalism degree from the Honors Program at Washington State University and spent time in Washington, D.C. twice, working for the Student Press Law Center and the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press. She was also an Executive Editor of the Washington State Public Disclosure Act Deskbook.
When not at HMLG, Signe works for the University of Washington School of Law where she is the Associate Director for the Law, Technology & Arts Group and teaches classes on copyright, trademark, international IP, First Amendment and IP, and legal research and writing. She also frequently lectures on specialized topics such as orphan works, geographical indicators, trade dress protection for non-traditional marks, and secondary liability for digital media.
Prior to joining UW and HMLG, Signe worked for Perkins Coie LLP in Seattle as a litigator specializing in IP and Media Litigation. She also clerked for the Honorable Bobbe J. Bridge on the Washington State Supreme Court and externed for the Honorable Margaret M. McKeown on the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.
Signe is the incoming Chair of the Intellectual Property Section of the Washington State Bar Association and a founding member of the Seattle Intellectual Property American Inns of Court. She also has been a Board Member of the Seattle Repertory Theater’s Crew for several years, is the Director for the Washington Lawyers for the Arts Clinic at UW, and served on the Rules of Professional Conduct Committee for the Washington State Bar Association.
