Shirley Roberson, Senior Associate

Shirley is Senior Associate at HMLG. She began her Seattle-based legal career as the in-house Programming Director for local cable and internet provider, Wave Broadband. While at Wave, Shirley excelled in negotiating long-term, strategic programming contracts between the cable system and television programming providers. She also helped found and operate a local law firm, representing debtors in consumer and commercial chapter 7, 11 and 13 bankruptcies.

Before attending law school, Shirley started her career in media business operations working as a corporate manager for industry leaders such as Wherehouse Entertainment and DIRECTV. She managed DIRECTV’s Customer Communications Group during several of its key initiatives, such as its national launch of local broadcast networks, mergers with USSB and Primestar, and introduction of international television programming.

Shirley received a Bachelor of Arts from U.C. Davis, an MBA from Keller Graduate School of Management and her Juris Doctorate from Loyola Law School of Los Angeles. While attending law school, Shirley served for two years as a research assistant to Professor Laurie Levenson, during which time she wrote a Directed Research Project analyzing the application of the Hobbs Act in Scheidler v. National Organization for Women, Inc. (2005) for a U.S. Supreme Court brief authored by Professor Levenson. Shirley also interned with the NASD (now known as FINRA), a self-regulatory organization of the securities industry responsible for the operation and regulation of the Nasdaq stock market and over-the-counter markets.

Shirley is licensed with the California State Bar, the Washington State Bar, the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Washington, and the U.S. Tax Court. When not practicing law, she is an avid supporter of local arts, including the Pacific Northwest Ballet. She also has worked as an Arts Fund Associate raising awareness and corporate contributions for local arts programs.
