Joel Emans, Junior Associate

Joel Emans is a Junior Associate for HMLG.  As an entrepreneur and musician, Joel is passionate about helping other entrepreneurs navigate through legal and business matters so they can focus on growing their businesses and being creative.

Prior to joining HMLG, Joel owned and operated Emans Legal Consulting where he advised artists and emerging software development, web services and clean tech companies on a wide range of corporate governance, securities, employment and intellectual property issues.

Joel earned both his B.A. and J.D. from the University of Washington.  In law school, he worked with start-up clients through the UW Entrepreneurial Law Clinic, served as president of the International Law Society and was recognized by the ABA as a top-ten national collegiate negotiator.  He also worked as a research specialist for the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Prior to law school, Joel worked as a corporate/securities legal assistant with Davis Polk in New York, performed freelance work as a financial journalist and earned national recognition as a jazz singer.

Joel currently sits on the Board of the Municipal League of King County Foundation. He blogs for www.seattlebizblog.com and volunteers in public schools in support of music education.
